It holds a large amount of water without being too big for a household kitchen. Also, unlike many other urns, it has a nice sized spigot which fills your cup quickly (almost too quickly, you have to be careful not to splash). Now for the bad. Even though the urn has double walls, there must not be any insulation between them. The outer wall gets quite hot. Not hot enough to burn immediately on contact, but enough to hurt. This lack of insulation requires the urn to often switch to low reheat mode (i think it spent more time rewarming than not), making it more expensive to run than a properly insulated urn or hot pot. The lid's handle has tabs that interlock underneath the urn's handles so that the lid stays on securely. However, the fit is very tight and the lid had to be forced to close the first few dozen times until it became “broken inâ€. Even after this, it was very snug and took a firm twist to close. Because it was used 24/7, i would refill the urn every night. After one month, one of the screws holding the handle to the lid fell out (and could not be replaced) because of stripping the threads in the plastic handle.
