So, the function is ok, but the appearance of the markings on the surface is deteriorating as use continues. This is quite annoying from an aesthetic point of view. It seems as though a seal over the markings has been omitted on my unit. I sent bodum customer support a query about this, but they have not responded in a couple of weeks. Update- feb 27: my initial query to bodum customer support was sent by email on jan 16. On feb 3, i received a reply email requesting that i send proof of purchase to "file a warranty claim". I sent the requested pop the same day and included a photo of the white kettle with the smeared and worn-off markings. About a week later, bodum phoned to say that a replacement kettle should received within 10 - 14 days.
